The goal		The objective of the course is to train students to recognize similarities and differences between the left periphery of English and Serbian sentences, to enable them to explore and analyze a phenomenon in this domain and to offer a sound explanation, relying on relevant literature in the field.
The outcome		Students can recognize a left-peripheral phenomenon with respect to which English and Serbian differ, they can find relevant literature on the topic and understand it; they can observe the selected phenomenon from different perspectives and can study it; they can offer an argumented solution or explanation of the problem and present it orally or in writing.
Contents
Contents of lectures		Traditional assumptions and the representation of the left periphery. The fine structure of the left periphery. Internal structure of the focus field: focus types and focus position(s). Internal structure of the topic field: number and type of topics. Force, finiteness and other projections. Interrogatives and the split CP.
