The goal | Learning the basics of literary theory, features of genres, text analysis and contemporary trends in literary theory and criticism | |||
The outcome | Students will be able to recognize the main features of literary generic forms, to conduct a formal analysis of a literary excerpt and to formulate an opinion based on a critical approach. | |||
Contents | ||||
Contents of lectures | Literature as a part of cultural production, domination of genres in historical overview. Canon, value, literature as art. Ideas about language and literary production, structuralism. Literarture as a construction of reality> realism, modernism, post-modernism. | |||
Contents of exercises | Analyses of the collection of dramatic and prose excerpts and poems. Characterization, setting, plot and storyline. point of view, features of the narrator. Sound and image in poetry (foot, metre, stanza, metaphor). | |||
