The goal | To introduce the core concepts in stylistics; to raise students’ awareness of the styles involved in the communication process and to train them to apply the knowledge gained in the course in the analysis of various types of texts. | |||

Contents | ||||
Contents of lectures | Students are introduced to theoretical issues in contemporary Hungarian stylistics, such as the stratification of the language, different styles and registers, the stylistic function of units pertaining to various linguistic levels (sounds, words, sentences and texts), the influence of extralinguistic phenomena on language. Functional styles. | |||
Contents of exercises | Students analyse the stylistic function of units pertaining to various linguistic levels and practice distingushing between functional styles. Students independently construct various types of texts. | |||
