The goal | Introduction to the norms in the translation of texts from the field of EU legislation and politics and translation of simple legal and political texts. | |||
The outcome | Upon course completion, students will be able to recognize legal formulas in a legal text and differentiate them from general legal language, and to translate simple texts from the field of EU legislation and politics in accordance with the norms in the translation of acquie communautaire from English into Serbian, taking into account textual and extratextual factors. | |||

Contents of lectures | General features of legal discourse. Functionalist approach to translation and legal texts. General principles of translation of EU legislation. Structure of EU legal texts. Recognition of legal formulas and appropriate procedures for their translation into Serbian. Recognition and translation of general legal language. Sources of European terminology. Legal equivalence in hybrid texts. | |||
Contents of exercises | Recognition of terminological units in the source text, search for terminological equivalents. Terminological resources: Evroteka (English-Serbian parallel corpus of EU legislation), Evronim (multilingual terminological data base), EUR-LEX, IATE (Interactive Terminology for Europe), EUROVOC. Translation of EU legal and political texts. | |||
