The goal | Development of the basic ability to use information technology in translation. | |||
The outcome | By the end of the course, the students will have acquired the basic concepts of computer-aided translation and gained the ability to use information technology in translation at a basic level (creating a translation memory, creating a translation project, translating in a translation editor, creating and using a bilingual glossary). | |||
Contents | ||||
Contents of lectures | A brief history and overview of the most prevalent computer-aided translation programs. Creation of a translation memory: techniques and methods of collecting representative texts, formatting and paralleling texts. Creating a terminological database by means of manual or automatic terms extraction. Independent computer-aided translation and team work. Coordinating the team and maintaining a translation memory. Internet as a translation resource. Transcription, adaptation and subtitling of audiovisual materials. | |||
Contents of exercises | Practical classes: translation practice in a computer classroom, other forms of teaching and independent work Use of computers in translation on the example of SDL Trados Studio, Google Translator Toolkix, DivXLand Media Subtitler, as well as through the use of Internet in translation. | |||
